New Wheels?

Not at all. This one's shinier.
And has a 4-stroke 125cc engine, rather than a 2-stroke 49cc engine. That means commuting.

Think Locally
... 'cause if you're scooting around at 30 mph, tops, you really don't have much choice!
So, at the western edge of scooter range (meaning, "not having to leave roads with 35mph speed limits or less"), we have this new Costco, and next door to that, a new shopping center with a Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, Best Buy and a couple of clothing retailers. The road is complete between the two, so I can get all the way ovah theah to Target without getting on Charlotte Pike. Awesome.
Also coming, a Petco and several other shops.
The McDonald's in this area also put in a Redbox, so I tried that out today. I rented The Good Shepherd.
DVDs from vending machines, for a $1/day. New releases, even. Next thang ya know, someone will just start mailing them to your home.

Speaking of Scooters...
I may have to re-think this as an option: The Genuine Buddy 125. Taiwanese. Two-year warranty, one-year roadside assistance! Same MSRP as the Yamaha Vino 125, but double the warranty, and according to reviews, peppier and a higher top speed, as well.I admit that I'd rather have the more modern styling, but I want the most bang for the buck, and if I have to pay $2500 (or more) for a used Honda Reflex (which, granted, has double the engine... but remember, I only wanna be able to keep up with metro commuter traffic), this might-should (Tennessean talk) be on my short list.

Music Detective
Sometimes, I get the bug.
Music sucks, but some doesn't. The music I like, very few appreciate, but I do not take it personally.
What intrigues me is when a piece of popular culture appropriates a bit of music I do like. There was an episode of a popular crime show (which, I couldn't say) in the last year or two that used bits of tunes from My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, and I was astonished -- both because of the age of the music, and that someone connected with producing the show thought, "Dang, that's some groovy shit -- let's use that." :)
A similar thang happened to me watching the first episode of season six of The Sopranos, except that I had never heard this tune that played over the opening minutes of the episode. I guess the William S. Burroughs voiceover was a clue, but... I felt certain this was a Bill Laswell tune.
Yep. It was.

Friday
So, what's been going on since Tuesday morning?
Not much... just a whole lot of tired. Paying the rent and all that kind of good stuff. No emergencies, no illnesses that didn't already exist. :)
Tuesday and Wednesday both, I was online for a while after work, but I turned in early both nights. My heart's just not in it, sometimes, y'know?
Thursday, we had a nice picnic lunch provided by the dean, served on china, an' all. Fancy. Under the tent, which is still on the mall. And then, I took the landlord out for dinner at the really excellent Messican restaurant that is on the periphery of scooter range, to my west.
Today, nothing phenominal to report. But... here's Curly!
