Mr. President, you told Harry Taylor in Charlotte, NC, that you wouldn't apologize for the warrantless domestic surveillance you've authorized, and said that we need to know why al Qaeda is communicating with Americans, or vice-versa. With all due respect, sir, the fact that you've circumvented the laws on the books in this regard means that we have only your assurances as to whom is being surveilled, and under what circumstances, as there is no case-by-case judicial oversight, as required by the Fourth Amendment. Given that the court responsible for approving such surveillance has declined only five out of over 19,000 requests, and given that your political party controls the Congress, why would you not work within the law, or work to change the law, instead of disregarding it, entirely?.

Calling Any Bubble-Piercing Patriots
Whether it's low poll numbers, or the fact that Karl Rove's tied up with more important matters, Mr. Bush seems to be allowing a little dissent into the pre-screened, separate-from-the-free-speech-zone bubble-speeches he's doing these days. My request is for ordinary citizens who somehow manage to find themselves in the same position as Harry Taylor, as I think Mr. Bush's answers will be instructive to all Americans:

Nice and crisp.
WalterNeff -- Thanks. I have to thank Glenn Greenwald for the distillation, really, and I think there may be a shorter way to get to what I propose (and one which doesn't afford as much purchase for a distrating answer; note that Bush didn't so much answer Mr. Taylor's assertions as to say he simply wasn't sorry for breaking the law).
