Love Hurts

That's my left forearm, after an uncharacteristically rough Curly session. See, he insists on biting me, if I've done a good job of petting him. It's nothing personal... some cats do this as a sign of affection, I'm told. However, this time, he caught me unaware, and did something else unusual -- he nibbled at my bare skin. Usually, he goes for a clothed portion of the body. This time, I overreacted by reflexively pulling my arm away from him, and Curly's sharp li'l claws sprung out, and did what came natural, in reaction to that.

Still, no harm done. Here he is, enjoying the balcony weather, today.

See, the treeck ees to stop petting right before we get all bitey.

Sometimes we send joo peeples warnings of when thees ees coming, sometimes not.

I suppose eet depends on the gato.

so.

el gato -- True dat. I can usually tell by the flick-rate of the tail. But you're right -- sometimes, Curly fools me. 20 minutes can pass after a petting, sometimes, and if I walk by his perch, he'll reach out for a nibble. Funny guy, Curly.

my extremely ugly tortoiseshell reaches out and hooks her paw around my leg to stop me for petting purposes. No claws tho, ever - altho she scored bigtime on my vet on her first visit ever. She was a stray, and shows signs of having been abused, it took me a year+ to get to touch her, and no one else in the area has ever been able to touch her. For me, it was her deaf kitten that probably made the difference, he couldn't hear her telling him I skin and eat kitties.

Love bites! I don't know about the scratches, though. Affectionate slaps?

One time, quite a few years back, in the olden days when phones didn't have a selection of seductive rings to choose from, the harsh ring of my telephone scared my two siamese (who'd been dozing on my lap) so much they leaped up, digging into the top of my legs as they pushed off with their powerful back haunches (and widespread claws), leaving long bloody scratches.

That didn't stop me from encouraging them to sit in my lap, though. A lapful of siamese cats is a sweet, sweet thing.

Sandy-LA 90034 -- Naw; I think the scratches were unintentional -- just an instinctual reaction to my jerking away so quickly. Curly often "pats" at me, but he leaves the blades sheathed.
