Here We Are

Well, FedEx went well, I think. After translating my résumé into their "online" application process ("online," as in, "web-based, but you have to use it in their office"), and taking a couple of standard psychological tests ("is taking home a pen from work stealing?" et al), I was promised a yea or nay sometime this week. The lady I met with said they have a lot of turnover on this shift (2:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m., 5-6 days/week), so they're eager to hire some new blood. Yo, pick me! Pick meeeeee!

I'm writing this from the condo, offline, @ 5:00 p.m. CDT... it's raining hard, wind-blown drops, right now, so a trip to the WGOWC seems unwise. I was at the laundrette briefly, earlier, and got online for a few minutes, but I always feel funny being there during the day when I'm not also doing laundry. I'd set out for the pool, since there were notices all over the compound, alerting everyone to the pool rules, and the fact that it would open on Memorial Day. Not surprisingly, it's not open yet. Rumor has it that there's some repair that needs done before the city can inspect and license it for the season, and the association is either too cheap to pay for the repairs, or doesn't have the money.

And pre-paid cell phones -- WTF?!? I didn't read the fine print when I got this Cingular deal. Apparently, if you don't use 'em, the minutes expire after 30 days! What? That's just crazy talk. I think I'll contact Cingular and ask them to restore those lost minutes, or lose my bidness to Virgin (thanks, NMRed!).

And then, there's always Curly, right? Heh... here's a shot I took during the storm (hence the flash). You wouldn't believe how soft his coat is, right now... of course, I'm still brushing him severl times a week, which he loves. Oddly, the fur that comes loose is not so much the outer guard hairs, but mostly the fine, downy undercoat. Still, he just feels a lot softer, these days.

JP,

I have Cingular and I, too, was disgusted at the 30 day rule. But I discovered it only applies to the $15 amount. The next month I added $25 (about the amount I actually use each month) and there was a 3-month delay or so. I know money is tight, but the difference in how long your minutes remain effective is comparatively a better deal when you load the $25.

Maybe I should write a reference letter for you on the "good" stationery!

My cat, Snickers, is about the same type breed as your Curly (N.American Short Hair), and her undercoat sheds like crazy in Spring - the really fine, sometimes almost invisible, hairs that get all over and into *everything* (especially sheets, clothes, and in my face)!
Unfortunately, she hates to be brushed or combed, so I usually just start grabbing handfulls of fur when she sits in my lap almost every evening. :)

Remek -- Brushing is as close to orgasm as Curly can achieve, these days. ;) He loves the hell out of it. I try to brush him ever-otehr day or so, and always outside... I've thrown 17 Curlys over the balcony rail, in cat-fur terms. :)

Good luck!

Sandy-LA -- Apparently, adding another $15 got me back the balance of call time I already had paid for, so all is well. This time, I'll use the shit! :)

Re FedEx: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Good wishes, good wishes, good wishes!

Re soft kitties: We've found that a teensy snack of tuna and/or non-fat sugar-free yogurt daily keeps our boy snuggly soft. That and the nightly brushings. (We've fed him Purina One all his life, but the tiny snacks put him over the top, fur-wise.)

Give Sir Curly a vigorous brush-brush for us!
