Weekend Update

Fun stuff first: After describing my new haircut elsewhere, some wanted to see what I meant by "onionhead":

And, for Ivytree, who cannot get enough of overweight cats, I bring t3h Curly in full fatness:

Mostly good news on the computing front, but not peachy-keen: I found out that I can keep writing to a regular CD-R, and the stone knives & bearskins notebook can read the latest session appended to that disc. That means I can upload Curly pix without wasting a CD-R each and every time I want to go portable. :)

On the desktop front, I did a few thangs -- since the modern Toshi notebook is no more, I hooked up the 15" flatpanel to the desktop system that Linda, my former neighbor, gave me before she moved to Florida. I also installed a Firewire card that I had laying around, so's I can suck in video from the GL-1, as long as I continue to have it. I also tried to install a PCI WiFi card that I had, but that failed. This is the second PC I've had where installing the card caused the machine not to boot/display goes blank, and never comes on. I guess the card is bad. I thought I'd do that, in case someone nearby ever installed an open network, but I'm out of luck on the card, so, no matter. I was able to pull the 128MB RAM and replace it with a 512MB module that I had, so the desktop now has 4x the memory it once had (and a DVD burner, and now, a Firewire card). Unfortunately, the desktop doesn't further my online pursuits, but if I feel like writing a long rant offline, I can always burn it (and Curly pix!) to a CD-R, and upload all that once I get over to the WGOWC with the sk&b notebook.

So, how the fuck is your weekend, so far?

JP, it occurrs to me that you have been communications-impaired of late to such an extent you may not have heard that Gateway is bringing its build-your-own manufacturing back to the US this year....in Nashville? 300 jobs, and I'm gonna kinda sorta bet that some of them will require your unique and irrepressable skill-set....

Supposed to be down LaVergne way on something with the truly astounding name of Heil Quaker Blvd. I guess I never spent any time over that way because the thought of that name has me laughing so hard I can hardly type. on the other hand WTF cares what the address on the paycheck is as long as they spell YOUR name right, eh? :)

Jeffraham,

It's all Greek to me, what you wrote about the computer stuff.

But CURLY -- love his belly! He looks zonked out there -- or is he waiting for a hand to reach out to caress his tummy? (Then would he POUNCE, like many other cats do?)

Aieee! Run for your lives! It's... it's The Tummy That Ate Chicago (er, Las Vegas)!

Thanks, JP.

Oh, my. Has Sir Curly the Cute had some recent tummy surgery, or has the fur just worn off from repeated luxurious stretching on the carpet?

Prince Harry the Hungry does the tummy-gram thing just to entice us over to rub it and squeeeeal so he can ATTACK, the fat bastid. So cruel to us poor suckers, he is.

By the way, lately when I've been stressed, I've come over to the site and scrolled down to the "Git You Some Curly!" post because that headline, coupled with the expression on his face in the first photo, never fails to make me die laughing. Thank you. Smooch Curly for me.

Xan -- I saw the news about Gateway on the local news just a few days ago, yes! I'll definitely put in for a job, there... as well as for the Costco that's opening scant blocks from where I live now, but that probably won't open until December, they're saying.

It's barely starting to grow back, now that the heat is off for the season. Haven't really needed anything other than the ceramic space heater in the bedroom a few nights in the past month.
