I really don't thank you people enough. I the past few months alone, y'all have paid three months of my rent, sent me a new kickass notebook PC, and have sent food for me and Curly, both. Believe it or not, none of it has gone to waste, and it has sustained Curly and I in a time I had hoped would never, ever arrive. It's somewhat overwhelming to think about, and makes me cry, somewhat often, when I think about how blessed I am to have so many friends and well-wishers in this world.
But tonight, I want to thank NMRed. She sent me cash, and lots of goodies, including some gift cards that she'd bought for another friend that ended up not being used or needed. One of those was a $30 gift card to BestBuy.
Now, it may sound silly to some, but given that my top concerns at this moment are shelter and food, I wondered how I might best apply that gift card. I quickly realized that my landlord didn't really need $30 of stuff from BestBuy, and that I'd be unlikely to trade it for food, so I decided that probably the best use of this $30 would be for a larger memory card for my camera. That'd allow me to take more photos of Curly and our environs, before having to upload it to the notebook. As is, I have a 16MB SD/MMC card that came with the camera (a Canon Powershot A410), which allows me 8-14 high-quality photos -- not really a problem, as I upload them, and clear the camera's memory card almost every day, really. It's not like I'm going on any trips where I'd need to take dozens or hundreds of photos, y'know? :)
However, BestBuy's lowest-priced SD/MMC card (256MB) was $29.99, and even with the free shipping available on the day I checked into it, after tax, I'd have to kick in some cash to order that. Cash is short, so I decided against that route.
Instead, I got a Kensington Flylight, a neat li'l USB-powered LED flashlight that plugs into the notebook, and gives me enough light to see the keyboard. I'm a fairly fast typist, but not a touch-typist; via muscle memory, I can almost touch-type, but the typos are enough that I waste a lot of time hitting the backspace key. So, this USB-powered light is truly a godsend, as I often post from the WGOWC late at night, with no illumination. And, it was only $18, so I still have a good $10+ to spend at BestBuy.
Thank you, NMRed -- you're better than I deserve.
