It's the ears, folx -- if they're not flattened back against the head, they're not angry or irritated. Curly's a love-biter... he typically does this after a good petting, and most often gives me "warning mewls" to let me know he's comin' with the teeth. :)

Aw, how sweet - a Curly-warning system. You're right, I should've guessed from the ears. Faridah's always got flattened back on her head before she took a snack on me. Curly, you so cute!
