Hey Moe!

Help me select Moe, Curly's soon-to-be condo mate and fuzzy buddy.

I think Curly will adapt to another cat quickly, since he's so gregarious, and really wants to visit with other cats (judging from his reactions through the window, anyway). I am thinking that adult cats will have less trouble accepting a youngster into the clan, and since Curly's ~4.5 years old, and still very playful, a 4-6 mo. old kitten might be a good way to go.

Curly's fixed, and the new kitty will either be, or in the near future be.

Thoughts?

UPDATE: I know a lot of you like the idea of an adoption from a no-kill shelter. I do, too -- Curly was adopted from one. However, I also like the idea of saving one of the kitties at Nashville Humane Society from The Needle. So, I've narrowed it down to one, or both...

Graham CrackerMoe MoeCracker (selected by our own Plum P), and/or

ElvisMoe LarryElvis.

All depends on personality, y'know. But these are two beauties.

UPDATE II: The Nashville Humane Society just called me -- they said MoeCracker had taken a turn for the worse, and was in the kitty hospital, right now. I hope she's okay. However, they urged me to come snuggle with LarryElvis, tomorrow at noon.

whomsoever you select, find a no-kill shelter to support...

I think it would be great! I had a two-year old Siamese and I felt bad leaving him alone all day when I was at work. A friend had adopted a Siamese kitten, but her older cat refused to accept him, so I decided to see if Keiki would be agreeable.

I have to admit I had my doubts. I got the little guy (Ramses) on a Friday and kept them separated at first because Keiki hissed and all the hair stood up on his back. He really freaked out at first. I was afraid Keiki wouldn't accept him either.

However, at one point on Sunday, I had to take a phone call and left them together in the bedroom. I didn't hear any yowls or tantrums, but I got back to the room as quickly as I could.

I was amazed to see Keiki (a male cat) licking Ramses all over and adopting him. Keiki even allowed Ramses to "nurse" for about 6 months, something I'd never heard of before.

The two cats became best buds -- curled up together to sleep, cleaned each others coats and ears, roared around the apartment chasing each other from time to time.

I've had friends who've adopted a series of cats who also had other cats and a couple of big dogs. They usually kept the kittens segregated for a period of time, allowing them to put their paws under the doors to tease the dogs and other cats. By the time they get together, they've acclimated to each other somewhat.

Good luck, Jeff.

P.S. I got your Curly DVD and another cat-lover and I plan to view it tonight on her dvd player! Thanks!

Happy Holidays to you and Curly!

Ditto Woody's advice. No aristocats, please. Are you ready for two kitties? Is this just New Kitty Fever? If you get a kitten, will they be okay when you're out on a call? Could the porch be a danger? Will you need more hard-drive storage space for documentation? Would you consider getting a gay kitty?

*slaps self*

Sorry. A blog I visited this morning made me a little crazy.

I have a multiple cat household, and Buddy, my 10 year old male, is the sweetest one of all... He mothered in 2 sets of kittens - a boy and girl, now 18 months, and 2 boys, now 10 months, when my females wouldn't do more than hiss... He plays with, sleeps with and washes the young ones.

Xan -- It's over in Antioch, near the airport. I'll call 'em up.

Everyone: Right -- no pedigreed kitties. Rescue cats ONLY here, folx. Curly was a rescue kitty, adopted from Happy Tails, a no-kill shelter in Franklin, TN.

I think you're on the right track age-wise. My older male cats always tended to mother young kittens and I think that's a good age. I do think maybe a female though.

Historically in my house, when a new young'n has come in, the mothering one & primary playmate has always wound up being of the opposite sex. The male cats have been mostly disinterested in the male kittens and same with female cats and kittens.

(And my mother's next door neighbor cat is a pretty little girl named Moe, that's a great name for a girl kitty IMO...)

bo -- Well, let's not get too carried away. They may not be there on Monday... and/or I may not like either's personality. Personality counts a LOT. And then there's money. It may be a few weeks before I can get one li'l buddy, let alone two!

But I like it. I'd have CurlyHunter, MoeCracker and LarryElvis. :)

JP, maybe you can offer some hours of CurlyTech in exchange for the kitties, non?

Plum P -- With the job, I really am not going to sweat an $85 adoption... but I'll offer it in the volunteer spirit, if that would be of more value to them. The thing is, if the Vandy job is 40+ hrs. per week, and all during business hours, they may not get the service I'd want to provide them.

So what happened to MoeCracker? Hope she's OK...

Gotta say LarryElvis looks like he'll fit right in, though...

dave -- Dunno; they said they'd tell me more tomorrow, in person. Worries me a bit.
