I'm Glad I Waited

... until I got to middle age before I became poor. This is these kids' backyard, inside a little fenced-in "patio" area, right below my balcony. How bad would that suck?

Then again, it's unlikely either of these guys will lose an arm -- or a life -- picking up a brightly-painted object, strangely out of place on the ground, near their home...

... unless Republicans are successful in their efforts to continue this idiotic war. Kids grow up fast. In only 18 Friedmans, the one on the left will be old enough to enlist... or be drafted.

Anyway... about the title of this post: It wasn't up to me. It ain't up to them, either.

Some thing are up to us, though.

It's all about perspective, really. I lived in an apartment until right before age 9 and loved it. There were lots of other kids, a pool, two playgrounds and a ditch (!) right next to the complex. Man, I loved that ditch.

When we moved into our house, my mom was so excited for me to have a backyard. I hated it. There were no kids my age and a backyard is no fun all by yourself. And no more pool! I thought she was going to lose her mind every time I said I wished we still lived in an apartment.
