JP, re your job thingy: Permission to suggest this is nothing to worry about. I gather the email sent out was a press release? An announcement of a speaking event by one or another dean? As the recipient of more press releases than I can begin to remember, the question of whether it was sent out under the name of an office or the name of the person-performing-the-activity is not only unimportant it is almost guaranteed not to be even noticed by the recipient. As long as it is in a form which assures it is legitimate (not a spoof I mean, and yes I have received such and in at least one case been taken in by it) that's all that matters.
If the "problem" is "ooh, it makes it look like he/she is engaging in shameless self promotion"...um, duh? That's his/her job. It's an event. It's being announced. That's all that matters.
In any case if you need more reassurance of continued employment, just remind yourself of the final fallback reality: they'd not only have to replace you, they'd have to find somebody who can do everything you can do for the same or even lesser pittance than what you are willing to work for. No way in hell they are going to take a chance like that.
If anybody says anything about the matter (unlikely, imho) grin broadly and announce that you have figured out what the problem was and All Will Be Well in the future. Then offer the speaker a donut, having made sure to equip yourself with a box of same on the way in Mon. a.m.

I love your pictures of L.E. against the fall foliage. His coat is beautiful set off against the fall colors.
