It's time for some straight talk (yes, I came up with that on my own).
The electoral math makes it damn-near impossible for John McCain to emerge victorious on November 4th, given the status quo. The nuking of a U.S. city would not change this, and the leads are too big in too many places for anyone to make an effective attempted theft. Early voters are showing up in record number, and in many, populous places, Dems are out-voting 'Pugs by 2:1, even 3:1.
It has made me sad to see a man I once admired run the shitty campaign I've seen these last few months. When we look back, we'll say that the pick of Sarah Palin was the somewhat-more-than-flesh-wound moment, but McCain's response to the economic crisis in September was the slow-killing, painful gut shot.
It's true that, like most Democrats and no-small-number of Republicans, I never, ever supported McCain for president.
Still, I hate to see him lose the way he's losing.
