There may be a vet visit in his future, if I can afford it. He's taken to peeing on the linoleum in the tiny foyer of the condo. I wonder if another male cat is marking the outside of the door, but I haven't smelled anything, so... .

I would be happy to contribute towards a vet visit. It does sound like territorial behavior. Have you scrubbed the area outside your door to eliminate an possible oder that could be annoying Curly?
