You'll be okay. You have a place to go and the cats will travel just fine. You don't have to give them up. They need you.
I know this feeling of wow, I'm a failure, I can't even take care of myself and on and on.
I have been through rough moves and I did make it. at the time, I wasn't sure if I would.
Bad times seem like they last forever.
What is good, JP, is that you are going to change something in your life. One way to look at is a fresh start.
There are a lot of people who have the same situation as you do. It's because the financil sector really did it this time. It isn't your fault.
I am on SSD and not a day goes by that I don't feel like a worm. This comes from not working and not having a decent income.
You've done your best and now your move will be positive. You can always go back to Nashville when things aren't so bad.
Someone 80 years old would tell you that at your age, your a baby, not an old man.
George
I'll be thinking of you and don't be scared.

Jeffraham,
I can fix you up with some cat pheromones in a spray. They work very well to calm the kitties (e.g., on a trip) and to get them acclimatized to new surroundings. We've been using them and they have had a very good effect, especially on Tom Thumb, who has stopped marking/peeing in inappropriate places and also stopped cowering during thunderstorms. Let me know when I can stop by.
XOXOXOXOX

I second what soprano said- the pheromone spray works wonders. (I use Feliway)

Also, I moved 7 cats 700+ miles (in 2 trips) and the yelling doesn't last the whole trip. Any new home would be equally stressful so relocating them locally wouldn't necessarily be less stressful for them and losing them would be much more stressful for you.

So a couple of hints- spray the Feliway on their bedding before you leave and take a heavy towel to cover the carrier if they don't settle after half an hour or so, or in heavy traffic. If you want to walk them at a rest stop, use a good harness - I just let them run around inside the car every 3 hrs or so- to get a drink and use the box. Also, light feeding the day of the trip to reduce possible car sickness.

Best of luck to you and the boys
