Quickie Disqus Account Set Up

If I need to add text later, I will, but I think this will get 99% of you smart people going. :) Try going over it without reading the white text first, and then come back and read that if you get confused by any steps.

Select Login from the Disqus control.

If you decide to give the Guest login a try, I don't want to hear from you, okay? It's nothing but pain for anyone who intends to keep coming back and posting, so stop bitching right now, and do what these photos are telling you. :)

Now, you could use one of the other authentication methods, but if you used facebook to login, for example, and you use your real name on facebook, that's going to show up on Disqus and you can't change it without changing your name on facebook. If you're paranoid about Disqus tracking, sign up for a separate Disqus account for every blog where you use Disqus. Simple. You can provide totally bogus e-mail addresses, even -- no verification.

The important thang here is that you keep in mind that your username is not going to be your display name. So, if you were "FunkyBanana" under Echo and haloscan, and Disqus tells you that the username FunkyBanana is already in use, DON'T PANIC. Sign up as fbanana4203 (or whatever), and later, you can put "FunkyBanana" in as your "Full Name," which is what will display on your Disqus comments. Yes, FunkyBanana will ride again!

Now that you're logged in (you are, aren't you?), let's make things pretty and nice.

People who know me know where I am. People that don't know me, I don't care for them knowing where I am. If you enter info in the "bio" portion, it will display on your comments after your "full name" info, btw.

If you signed up at Disqus with the same e-mail as you used to sign up at Gravatar, there will be an option for you to use that grav; if not, no. Easy enough to upload a new one to Disqus, though.

And that's it! Start posting, be patient for the grav to show up, and use butterbar mostly, and F5 every 15-30 minutes.

NOTES ON BROWSER CHOICE: Internet Explorer is the worst -- vanishing comment entry box, etc. DO NOT USE IE WITH DISQUS unless you like frustration. I prefer Chrome, while others have good luck with Firefox. I've had no problem with Firefox on the netbook, but prefer Chrome for its speed on the PC. Mobile users seem to be SOL unless using something called "Atomic Browser."

There are some other things I will probably come back and backfill here, just to make everything clearer, based on your input. Keep in mind that I am out of work, and have spent an hour just doing the Photoshop stuff you see here now (and will likely spend several more hours beefing it up before all is said and done), so if you find this helpful (and have it to spare -- please don't send anything if you're also struggling!), a small donation would certainly be appreciated -- thanks!
