No, it's not a high-five -- he wanted full editorial control of this post! :)
I have some other good ones that I've taken in the last ten minutes, but I'll dole them out as the day wears on. One, I have to have a few beers before I can make my joke about it, and I'm just on my second cup o' coffee. So, stay up late tonight for that one, sure.

Love that black velvet underpaw...
lizzy -- You should see the bottoms of his feet. They're black as coal, too. Really, unless you see his undercoat (such as here), it's easy to mistake him for a grey tabby.
.
Stupid question: Are his claws intact, or clipped/trimmed?
I'm thinking of getting my newbies claws clipped, because not socialized on the proper time to use claws (he thinks it's all the time), and I liked to have some of my blood and flesh left over.
buckeye -- Not a stupid question. I'm glad you asked.
Curly's claws are fully intact. Yes, this is a problem, where destruction of personal property is concerned. He's damaged my upholstered furniture somewhat, at least to the point where I couldn't sell it, if I had to. That sux.
However, de-clawing is pretty cruel. It's equivalent to having one's fingers removed to the first knuckle. I'd never do that to a kitty, but I won't browbeat you about it if you decide that's best for you and yours.
I dunno what to tell you "personal clawing," since Curly only rarely nicks me -- he's figured out that I prefer the paw without the extended claws. :) I'd recommend a water pistol, as that's generally a good way to train cats when they're doing something you'd prefer they not do.

You do have a cat! I like his willingness to answer the teacher's questions.
yeah - the water pistol works really well; just don't squirt their heads. (or if you can just get your fingers a tiny bit wet and flick some drops at the kitty; then when you don't have water in your hand, the flicking motion will stop the behavior.) Otherwise - the cat will identify the actual water pistol with the problem.
Curly is such a cute kitty. That picture is great!

I have the same problem with my couch, but I've had it for at least 15 years. If I ever decided to get new furniture (probably not) I would have to train the kitties to use their scratching post!
wonderfulwhitelady -- Thank you! Curly's such a cooperative and loving beast. That's part of the reason I can't really get too upset with his clawing... he really isn't terribly destructive, but like any cat, he's determined to get those dead nail cells shed. When I have money again, I'm gonna make him an awesome sisal post.
