Damn You, Newscoma

I don't play reindeer games. Mainly because I'm a private person, and I don't like to tell everything I know. Plus, you know, my workplace knows of this blog, so how revealing can I get? ;)

The rules say I'm supposed to post The Rules:
1. All right, here are the rules.

2. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.

3. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

4. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.

5. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
Since I'm a rule-breaker, I'm pissing on Rule #5, 'cause I don't want anyone to feel obligated to play reindeer games. :)

Now, Newscoma says she tagged me with this 'cause she wants to "... read more than just about his brilliant cats." Okay, here goes.

  1. I have two cats. Okay, couldn't resist. :) Their names are Curly and LarryElvis.
  2. I also have two scooters. Anyone wanna buy a Yamaha Vino 50? Btw, neither scooter has a name. Naming scooters is like naming penises: Irrelevant and silly.
  3. I used to play guitar and bass, but I don't so much, anymore. I don't really miss it, 'cept sometimes, I do. I loved to write original (?) rock/jazz/fusion/experimental tunes and record them on a 'puter, but my muse left me around 2002-2003.
  4. I've been using the Internet since 1989, which sets me up for all of the next factoids.
  5. I was working for a university in 1989, as I am today. I had a seven-year stint working for a corrupt Fortune 100 company betwixt the two.
  6. My Internet "doings" have gotten me quoted in GQ, Scientific American and in an O'Reilly & Associates book (Bandits on the Information Superhighway, no longer in print).
  7. I helped build a web application that won the corrupt Fortune 100 company a cover story in Information Week.
  8. I met people in meatspace that I first met in cyberspace in 1991. That was at the Newport Jazz Festival in Providence, RI. Dang, I'm an old bastard.
I didn't mention that Allan Holdsworth gave me a guitar, but that was also Internet-related. Y'all don't even know who Allan Holdsworth is, do ya? If you do, I'll be amazed. :)
