I saw it for the first time, last night. At that time, I'm usually watching Bill Moyers' Journal, but his guest last night was Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and I could see no reason to watch something so irrelevant to me. Besides, if someone said I needed to see it, PBS.org has it online, right? So...

Question: When I used to watch Tom Baker in the role, the episodes were mini-serials. Has this changed? Are these episodes all self-contained in 46 minutes?

Well, David Tennant is groovy but I liked Doctor #9 even better.
Yes, they are now all self-contained in under 50 min. While there are narrative through-lines connecting episodes, you don't get a cliffhanger every twenty minutes. I don't miss that aspect of old Who one bit.
So, how did you like it?
Bridgett -- I'll give it more time, but right now, not terribly impressed. I prefer serialized TV, generally speaking.

Jeffraham, you might like a current offshoot of the Whoniverse, "The Sara Jane Smith Adventures". It is quite like the old serial style adventures. And Liz Sladen is still small, shapely, and on target...

The new Who is serialised, for a certain definition of "serialised." There's definitely a long narrative arc in each season, but you have to be paying attention to see it.
Personally, I like it that not every episode is "Part 2 of 3" when I tune in to try and watch it; I don't like shows that attempt to demand you be there to watch every time at the same time.
