Carvin H1 Prototype

I got this from Allan Holdsworth, at his home, while attending a birthday party for him, several years back. It's prototype #5 out of 11.

How's it sound? As pretty as it looks?

Ali -- Yes; it's very nice. It has a chambered alder body, and as you might detect from the photo, it had a Wilkinson trem installed when it was initially delivered to Allan.

According to him, he loved the feel of the guitar, but sent it back, asking that they put a "stop" tailpiece on it.

The neck is very "clubby," to me... deep "D" shape. And the frets are high. Still, it's a very accurately-intonated guitar, and that pickup sounds like GOD. They cooled that off in the production model. This one is EASY to overdrive in a very smooth way, with a decent tube amp.

Altogether, I say this guitar sounds like the best Gibson ES-335 ever made.
