Ali -- When I did that, I had three other basses (2 fretted; one not) at my disposal. This instrument was made by a hillbilly in NC, out of recovered furniture. All he made were fretless basses, I assume because the math for frets was too much for him. :-/ .
... but only three. I used the G to tie down a buddy's trunk a while back. :)

Most people would use a bungee cord, but very creative use of a guitar string, J-man. ;)
