My Dinner With Andre

This crazy fucker is Andre, my (now-naturalized U.S. citizen) buddy who grew up and lived most of his life in Durban, South Africa. You've probably seen me mention him, before, but we had a falling out a few years back over something completely stupid, and I'm in the frame of mind to stop being stupid and to begin setting things right with people I have wronged in the past. So!  We have reconnected, and it's pretty awesome.

The stories he and I could tell about one another would make an entertaining book. Really.

Good to have him back in my life. I missed Andre. Now, to work on James in Columbus.

UPDATE: In principle, Andy (Sahib's boss) has agreed to make minor improvements to lease me the place for one year, @ $1/month, and 50% of net profits. It's win-win for him, since it's 2200 square feet that's earning him NOTHING right now (or since 2003). I have to get contractors to quote a partial raised floor, repair of both bathrooms, and an area where I can sell pre-packaged foods and coffee.

For me, it's a base of operations... high traffic, high visibility (with that sign? mutherflocker, please!). I need to buy some inexpensive tables, chairs, and pay to modify the sign... but "Dutch Maid Cafe" would work, no?

UPDATE II: I'm supposed to return a call to Vandy's External Affairs office at Peabody College for an interview, tomorrow!

• Send spare RAM to Truth; (done!)
  
• Send Curly DVDs to two lovely ladies in L.A.; (done!)
• Three loads of laundry;

• New rabbit ears for the TVPC (the old ones' fine tuning knob broke, and it makes a difference);
• New CD/DVD "book-style" case, for all the "eval" copies of discs I'm holding; (done!)
• Call vet to re-schedule Curly's date for January; (done!)
• Work on print ad for 37209online.com and 37209.biz;
• Work on 37209online.com/37209.biz web site design;
  
• Finish the out-of-state web site re-design project as best I can, so I can pay rent this month!;
• Attend FCC meeting at Belmont all gotdamn day (done!).

Community Collaboration

What you see above is an excerpt of a graphic created by my new friend, Trozdol, whom I met at Cafe Coco a couple of weeks ago. He's an art student, who also has a part-time gig at CompUSA locally, and I commissioned him to do this graphic for my "coming soon" community resource web site that will be tied to my condo community, and to local businesses in the 37209 zip code. Being an enterprising young man, he said he would accept a Curly DVD and 2% of my gross receipts for as long as I use the graphic, minimum of 90 days use. Is that great, or what?

I'll be getting dressed up, and visiting some of the local merchants and restaurants in coming weeks, selling ads on the site, once I have the site up, and advertised locally. After talking on the phone to sittenpretty, I'm convinced that I can sell small graphic ads for $100/month to the chain stores, to link to coupons, etc., and to local mom-n-pops for less, to start.

Towards this end, I've registered 37209.biz and 37209online.com this evening... coming soon, to a browser in West Gnashvegas...

Tuesday's First Curly

Here, he asks dad to keep scratching his noggin, and/or let him out on the sunny balcony this morning. It's up to nearly 50°F, before noon. It's going to be a good day!

I'm going to work on the HOA prototype some more, and by the end of the week, I should be ready to shop the idea around to a few other condos/apartments. Call it entreprenurial community building. I'll do similar deals with other places, or have them pay me up front and monthly, while they sell ads and collect the ching on that.

Yep, I done put together a 600 dpi file (click image for full web-sized image, unsquashed by Blogger's stylesheet) to take to Eckerd to have run off ($0.19/ea. in lots of 50+) to promote the condo's new web site. Of course, I'll probably not blanket the neighbors with this, but I'll make one up for West Gnashvegans, since I'll be selling ads to local merchants and establishments (with luck) to make some scratch.

If I can get this lady's help, I should be shittin' in high cotton (just ask the Knuck!), in short order.

I've not heard from the folx who distribute them, so maybe if your last name isn't Target or CVS, they don't wanna deal... who knows. At any rate, I'll find alternative non-retail channel sourcing, I'm sure. Right now, I'm waiting for Walgreen's to get a new shipment in -- they's out of 'em. I will fulfill grandefille's cash order for four units first, and then I'll get to the few others who've expressed interest as soon as I have some product in hand, okay?
