(One Of) The Hawk(s) At Peabody

The hawk, just outside my office window at Peabody. No shit -- 10 feet from me, here's this big-ass raptor! It stayed here for about 40 minutes. The whole building came to our office to see it, close-up. I should have charged admission! :)

The Warming Trend

... is causing ripples in the Earth's atmosphere, hence the visual distortion. ;)

Seriously though, in an hour, I will have a bicycle! Yay!

And since Soprano has to leave tomorrow at noon, the decision to see Bob Herbert speak tomorrow just got that much easier.

Monday Afternoon Breakblogging... With Cat!

Now, if only I can get my W-2 from Vanderbilt... I might have a decent downpayment towards that awesome Yamaha Majesty, once the IRS coughs up its due.

How's your Monday?

More Photos From Work

It's going up in no time. That next story is already built. Radiology.

Lifeflight heliport, with 'copter.

The Jewish kids' smoking area.

Rust Never Sleeps.

I like the sign. It's a good sign.

There's A New Carol Brierty In My Life

LarryElvis shows iris! Huzzah!

I present it this way, Photoshopped, because I don't want to impact American productivity with all the ensuing "share this with my girlfren'" shit.
Seriously.
Y'all can't handle the troof!

There were several minutes of idle ohh-and-awwww at my workplace today when I shared my new desktop photo. I am blessed, for I work with many women, and such nice folx they all are, so far. All of 'em love cats. And dogs.

My boss is a man (his is a woman, named to a FedEd post, external to her deanship, by (gak!) Chimpy... math? Sallyh?), but I only see him about four minutes a week. He seems quite busy, but I've yet to see him sweat. He's probably a couple-four years younger than me, and a super-smart dude. He cracks some good ones in our comm-comm meetings -- he's quick. A natural Atriot, IMO.

It'd be fun to get him to attend the meetup on 2/5. Maybe if I explain that Sinfonian is an alumnus, he will be more enticed (one of his specialties is development, so I'm sure Sinfonian will be happy to hear me speculating about his future buttonhole party... heh!).

More VU+PC Pixel Blogging

What I see when you see me here. I dunno what you see, 'cause you sluffers won't send me a screen cap!

Look left before crossing 21st Avenue South...

Look right before crossing 21st Avenue South...

A lonely Chinese Death Machine.

Looking up the hill from behind the library towards the Iris Cafe patio. Lovely monkeygrass for this time of year... our campus is full of it. Great, dense, lush swaths of it, everywhere.

PC-and-VU Blogging In Big Pixels

At lunch, I took some photos around campus...

This is a squirrel's-eye view very near where I park the CDM every morning, looking southwest, up the hill, towards the Administration Building's parking lot.

What could be creepier than babies climbing a giant DNA double-helix? Children of Man, indeed!

It's not turtles all the way down. It's owls, magnolias, turtles, ducks, wabbits, wee li'l goats and dogs!

Administration Space

The cats are being completely uncooperative this morning in allowing the auto-focus to work its magic (e.g. they will not stand still for 1/10th of a second), so, let me show you where I work!

This is my space in the assistant dean's office. Taken at lunchtime, of course, since I'm looking at Eschaton comments. Cafe Coco mug!

Wooden artforms.

How about that?

Let's Start 2007 With Squirrels!

From Vanderbilt's Peabody Campus. These squirrels are insane. They don't care if it snows applebutter. They dive in and out of trashcans, dash out in front of vehicles of all types, and give each other high-fives for causing accidents.

Peabody 360°

This is on the NW corner of the Peabody Admin building. You can see my office window in this shot, btw.

No one said they saw me on the live Peabody Library Terrace Webcam today... my feelin's was all hurt-like.

Anyway, look for me tomorrow, around lunchtime (1-2 p.m. EST). I'll wave and make a foo' of myself, I promise!

Day Five

Boldly parking where I should never go -- right in front of the Admin Building @ Peabody. :)

Directly in front of the Admin Building, across 21st Avenue, Medical Center East, and the Trauma Unit behind, w/heliport, for Vanderbilt Lifeflight trauma patient transport. The chopper's in the center of the photo, behind the tree limbs; you can make out the fins of the tail rotor guards.

I don't know what this building is in the heart of the Med Center, but it's going up quickly. When I left Thursday, the supports on the top were not there. Now they have forms going in for the concrete. UPDATE: Busy Mom sez this is for Radiology and Radiological Sciences.

First Floor of Peabody Library. Note four eMacs. Or whatever they're called. Macs... sheesh.

Vandyland!

This is between the John F. Kennedy Center and the Peabody Library, in a traffic island that is immaculately landscaped. I liked it, 'cause I'm a cat dude. El Gato Negro?

Someone left these funny looking lamps downstairs in the admin building...

The Iris Cafe, on the north end of the Peabody Library, very near the Black Cat.

The front entrance to the Peabody Library. On the opposite side is moto-cycle parkin'.

Walking south from Magnolia Circle towards my building, which this would be. Peabody Administration.

The wreath people have been here.

Next week will be really slow, so if the weather holds, I'll get out and about and do more extensive photojournaling of the entire campus. It's a neat place... big, too.
